Kickstarter was an awesome experience for me, and now my good filmmaking bro Bobby Miller is trying to get the money to make sure his flick gets to Sundance. He’s the first kid I know to get a short in there, which is a huge inspirational accomplishment, so check out his Kickstarter project and lend a hand if you can!
80 shots planned for a single shoot day, several of which are major FX shots. Probably too much, but I’m just gonna have to power through it because I don’t see any possible alternative. Don’t bother me on Saturday, January 30th, as I’ll probably be busy having a meltdown. Thanks.
I finished my storyboards while hanging out doing nothing at my grandma’s house in Ohio. Now I’m at my parents in NC making a master shot list and preparing to schedule them all out. Should have it done by the time I get back to LA in the New Year. Then its just a few weeks until shooting.
Just finished storyboarding one of the major FX/fight/stunts/blood sequences. It’s a doozy. 51 shots (including some complex FX shots) is probably way too fucking much for a single day of shooting. Ugh. Only one more major sequence to storyboard, and then the whole flick is mapped out. I’m tired.
On Balsa Wood
So everyone was unanimous in saying to me: If you need a breakable door for a character to smash through, use balsa wood. It’s the lightest, cheapest, easiest material to break. So I figured it can’t cost much, given how it literally seems to only be used on movie sets and in model airplane kits.
So I call A&G Lumber for a price quote: Guy says “What, you need it for a...
May have just cast a professional wrestler in this movie. Wild stuff.
Goal for tonight: Storyboard the entire back office sequence. Ugh.
Prop Help Wanted
Looking for some specific props for my short, maybe you have something laying around collecting dust that you care to donate or arrange to sell. If you got any of this, drop me an email ASAP so we can work out the details:
Floor Tom (from a traditional drum kit): We need one of these to smash over the top of someone’s head. Not to break necessarily, just to end up on someone’s head...
In the middle of storyboarding one of the action/battle/gory scenes of the short. One that involves a lot of special FX shots and way too many camera setups. My wrist hurts. I am not a very good artist. I know the way I want the shots to look in my head, but translating them to paper isn’t always easy. I told myself to finish out the storyboards for this scene tonight, not to stop until...
Production meeting was productive. I think.
I just went through the Kickstarter donations and compiled everyone’s contact information, discovering that two of our donations coming from complete strangers are coming from both Puerto Rico & Australia. Big thanks to Robyn and Ineris for sending Night of the Punks INTERNATIONAL.
Production meeting tonight. Final casting news coming soon!
